Many of the world's
greatest thinkers, artists, scientists and humanitarians have received
their ideas and inspirations from the natural world. To give children
and in particular urban children an opportunity to learn from the natural
world, we must provide them with real life experiences including playing
in, working in and learning in the natural world. Students, applying to
Sunnyside Environmental School, should understand that part of their week
will be spent learning outdoors. Sunnyside Environmental School is also
committed to creating a strong community where all people take collective
responsibility for the good of all its members. There is a strong emphasis
on democratic decision making, service-learning and cooperative learning.
Students solve real world problems and often use the arts to demonstrate
knowledge of academic learning.
Students widhing to
attend Sunnyside Environmental School must fill out a PPS School Choice
from. Forms for the 2004 - 2005 school year must arrive at the PPS offices
by March 19, 2004. Parents and students are required to sign a Statement
of Understanding, which must be turned in at teh school office.
