2008 Abernethy School Kindergarten Roundup will be held at the school
sometime in February from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Please join us for a
very informative evening.| • | Your child must be 5 years old before Sept 1, 2007 |
| • | School must have proof of your child's age. |
| • | Your child must have all necessary immunizations. |
| • | As parents or guardians, you must present proof of residency in the school district (utility bills are preferred) |
Abernethy offers both half day and full day fee-for-service kindergarten. Both classes strive for a balance between structure and unstructured activities. For more information about curriculum and the daily schedule, click here.
The All Day Kindergarten Program requires a contract to be signed as well as a non-refundable $100.00 deposit. These contracts need to be signed tenatively by the tbd date in March 2007 so that the school will know how many neighborhood families are interested in the program. Contracts will be available at the Kindergarten Round Up.
Abernethy provides a well-rounded education, emphasizing literacy and the arts, and continues to provide music, physical education, art residencies and library services to all students, even as budget cuts have demolished these programs at other schools. Abernethy’s small size fosters a nurturing and intimate environment. An involved and committed parent group provides support to the teachers and staff. As a result of focused school and community leadership in fundraising and planning, Abernethy received a new playground, installed in February of 2004.

NOTE: As a result of a new school district policy, even though an Abernethy neighborhood child wishes to attend the full day kindergarten program at Abernethy, unless his or her application is filed by the tbd date in March, all available slots may be given to transfer students from outside the neighborhood. Abernethy’s full day, fee-for-service kindergarten has traditionally been a popular program. Neighborhood families planning on enrolling their incoming kindergartner in this program are strongly advised to complete their applications, including payment of deposit, by the tbd date in March.
