About Abernethy
Proud to be a Neighborhood School!
Abernethy
has been a gathering and learning place in inner SE Portland for
over 80 years. At Abernethy, we believe that a strong neighborhood
school creates a safer and friendlier community for everyone. The
families, teachers and staff at Abernethy are proud to continue
the tradition of being a part of a strong, viable neighborhood school.
Although
the school is closely identified with the Ladd's Addition neighborhood,
Abernethy actually serves a much broader community. Abernethy's
official boundaries span from SE Powell to SE Hawthorne Blvd., and
from the Willamette River up to approximately SE 39th Avenue.
In addition
to our "neighborhood" families, Abernethy also attracts students
who transfer here from other public schools. Many families have
chosen our school because of its small size, our strong community,
and the excellent education offered to Abernethy students. At this
time, Portland Public Schools continues to follow an "open enrollment"
policy which provides for liberal allowance of transfers between
public schools.
Abernethy
is now a year-round school. Please see the calendar
for details.
