Abernethy is a neighborhood elementary school which offers a challenging and well-rounded education to children from Kindergarten through 5th Grade. The school is located in the heart of Ladd's Addition, one of Portland’s oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods in SE Portland.

Starting in the 2005-2006 school year, Abernethy's population grew due to the merger of Abernethy with students from nearby Edwards and Richmond Schools. While Abernethy's student population increased, the school remained small enough to offer a strong sense of community and a personal knowledge of staff, students and families.
