Interdistrict Transfers
Non-Residents Non-resident students may apply to attend a Portland Public School during the School Choice transfer cycle. However, non-residents are considered after resident student requests. If selected in the lottery, a non-resident family must contact the new district to request an interdistrict transfer. An approved interdistrict transfer allows your student to attend school outside the resident district. Final approval will be at the discretion of the Portland School District. Interdistrict agreements must be renewed annually. Downloadable PDFs If you reside in Washington... You may request admission to a Portland Public School during the School Choice transfer cycle. However, school funding cannot be transferred between states. Therefore, you must be willing to pay tuition if approved. Space must be available.
Families who move outside PPS If you move out of the Portland School District attendance area and wish to have your student continue to remain in the enrolled school, please notify the school of the change of address. As a non-resident family you must contact the new district to request an interdistrict transfer or attend your new district. An interdistrict transfer allows your student to attend a school outside the resident district. Final approval will be at the discretion of the Portland School District. Interdistrict agreements must be renewed annually.
Downloadable PDFs Portland Students Interested in Attending Other Districts If you feel you have an extenuating family circumstance that prevents your student from attending any Portland Public School, you may contact the Enrollment and Transfer Center (ETC) to request a transfer to another school district. Note: These transfer requests are rarely approved. Contact the ETC at 503-916-3205 for additional assistance.
