PPS will launch the rebuilding effort with a groundbreaking ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 2, at Marysville, 7733 S.E. Raymond St.
The goal is to have students and staff members back in their neighborhood school by January 2013.
Marysville students and staff members moved to the former Rose City Park School after a fire Nov. 10, 2009. Insurance covered property lost in the fire and will cover the cost to repair the building to its pre-fire condition.
If a school construction bond had passed in May of last year, PPS would have combined insurance proceeds from the fire claim with bond funds to fully modernize the entire school. The defeat of the bond forced PPS to reevaluate its plans for Marysville.
