From 2-5 p.m. today, Lincoln High School students compete in the championship round of the “We the People” competition in Washington D.C. Just one of 10 teams in from across the nation to advance to the championship round, Lincoln earned the trip to Washington by winning the state competition in January – sponsored by the Classroom Law Project.
In the state and national competition, teams compete by demonstrating their knowledge — through mock congressional hearings — on the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and related documents.
Grant High School placed seventh in the national competition last year. The last time Lincoln made it to the championship round was in 2010 when the school placed fourth.
At 10 a.m. Tuesday, James John Elementary School and PPS Nutrition Services host a national media event for the kick-off of the HBO documentary "The Weight of the Nation" at James John School, 7439 N. Charleston Ave.
In addition, James John will showcase one of 10 new salad bars donated to PPS from the Whole Kids Foundation, a new drinking fountain and the school’s recent Oregon Wellness Award – with a banner and $2,500 check from the Oregon Dairy Council and the Oregon Department of Education.
On Thursday, from 6-8 p.m., school families and community members browse student artwork at Lewis Elementary School, 4401 S.E. Evergreen St.
Lewis students will serve as docents, the school’s various music groups will perform and the Paintbrush Cafe serves up desert.
