White House boosts King arts instruction
April 24, 2012
King PK-8 School is receiving national attention with actress Sarah Jessica Parker's announcement on the "Good Morning America" show that the school has been selected for a presidential arts education program.

King is one of eight schools selected for the Turnaround Arts Initiative, a program sponsored by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.
Turnaround Arts provides schools with two years of intensive arts education resources and expertise — including support from high-profile artists — to support educational reform efforts.

The new public-private partnership is designed to narrow the achievement gap and improve student engagement through the arts.
King’s selection follows a rigorous national search. The school impressed leaders from the White House advisory group during a
school visit in February.
Parker made the announcement April 23 (view the video clip below).
