Superintendent Carole Smith on Wednesday announced two principal assignments for next school year: Teri Geist as principal of Beverly Clearly K-8 School and Steve Olczak as principal of Benson Polytechnic High School, after serving as interim.

Beverly Cleary K-8 School

Teri Geist has accepted the position of principal at Beverly Cleary, following Linda Kapranos, who is retiring at the end of June 2009.

Geist is now completing a one-year special assignment as the interim director for the Talented and Gifted Education Office. As she left Alameda Elementary School for the temporary assignment, Raddy Lurie became the school's interim principal. Human Resources now will work with the Alameda school community to establish selection criteria for the school's principal long-term.

Geist started her career with PPS as a speech language pathologist, and has been a special education supervisor, assistant principal of Gray Middle School and principal of Laurelhurst Elementary School. She will begin her new role on July 1, 2009.

Benson Polytechnic High School

Steve Olczak is the new named principal for Benson Polytechnic High School. Olczak has been serving in the role of interim principal for Benson for the past year, following Christie Plinski, who retired.

Olczak also served as the director within the Office of High Schools for the school district and was a high school principal in the Reynolds School District and Morganza School District in Maryland.
