September 18, 2007
Portland Public Schools and Portland Community College have merged their driver education courses in an effort to offer more classes and reduce school district costs.
The new course, for students age 15 to 18, will be offered at five locations. A mandatory student and parent orientation for classes at Lincoln, Grant and Wilson high schools is Monday, Sept. 24. The orientation for classes on two PCC campuses will be at the first class meeting Saturday, Sept. 29.
The course, approved by the state Department of Transportation, runs from 30 hours, plus six hours behind the wheel and six hours of in-car observation. Cost is $249.
