Resources for meeting the Social and Emotional Needs of Gifted
Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted. SENG is dedicated to fostering environments in which gifted adults and children, in all their diversity, understand and accept themselves and are understood, valued, nurtured, and supported by their families, schools, workplaces and communities. http://www.sengifted.org/
SENG authors writing for parent advocating for their Twice-Exceptional students suggest some techniques to help kids tolerate difficulty.
1. Children may use their giftedness to compensate for special needs.
2. Help them recognized a task is hard for them
3. Let them know that you understand
4. Start easy and gradually ease them into more difficult work
5. Do a task together (start a writing session with a teacher or student scribe)
6. Know there is a basis for the sometimes seemingly irrational over-reactions of twice-exceptional kids
7. Recognize achievements not short comings
