Propane Powered Buses

With growing concerns regarding increasing fuel costs and environmental concerns Portland Public Schools in 1983 took a bold step and converted its school bus fleet and the contracted fleet to propane power. Portland Public Schools Student Transportation has maintained a propane powered fleet since that date.

In May of 2003, Clean Cities held a conference in Palm Springs, California. Sponsored by Sustainable Energy Strategies, Inc., Bryan Winchester, Assistant Director of Student Transportation, receive on behalf of Portland Public Schools the Propane education & research Council's "2003 PROPANE EXCEPTIONAL ENERGY FLEET AWARD". Representatives of Sustainable Energy Strategies, Inc presented the award.

Portland Public Schools - Student Transportation takes pride in its ongoing commitment to affordable and environmentally friendly power sources.
