Whole School Program

After participating in the initial intensive training in core Content Enhancement Routines (CERs), core content teachers at Striving Readers schools integrate the CERs into their instruction throughout the school year. Content Enhancement helps all students, regardless of literacy levels, learn critical content required in the core curriculum. Using the content enhancement series, teachers compensate for limited literacy levels by using explicit teaching routines, adaptations, and technology to promote content mastery.

Teachers are supported in the achievement of Striving Readers Outcomes by a full-time on-site Striving Readers instructional coach

Teachers and students at Striving Readers Schools may use the Visual Thesaurus, an interactive dictionary and thesaurus which creates word maps that blossom with meanings and branch to related words. Its innovative display encourages exploration and learning which allows students to understand language in a powerful new way.

Also, access to World Book Online is also available courtesy of Striving Readers.  World Book Online artciles include five basic elements: a complete story; visual aids; related articles; and outline; and comprehension questions and study aids.  Additionally, the articles can be translated into almost 30 different languages.
