ASD Complex Evaluation Support

How can a building special education team access support for a complex evaluation?

PPS will utilize the current central office evaluation team to assist teams for “complex” autism evaluations. The team consists of Autism Specialists, Evaluation Specialists, Speech Language Pathologist, School Psychologists, Occupational and Physical Therapists.

A case is considered complex if:

  • The team has completed all of the evaluation components, considered other suspected disabilities, and is still having difficulty making the eligibility determination.
  • The student to be evaluated is a safety risk to himself/herself or to others.
  • The team needs support in sharing information related to Autism with the family.

Support for complex evaluations for ASD eligibility will include:

  • Observations
  • Behavior Checklists
  • Distinguishing between characteristics of Autism and mental health
