   Who are the IEP Partners?    

  • IEP Partners are parents of Portland Schools students receiving special education services. They have real life experience as parents of students receiving special education services.
  • IEP Partners know the special education system.
  • IEP Partners receive ongoing training for their role from the Special Education Department.

   What is the role of IEP Partners? 

  • IEP Partners help parents plan for IEP meetings.
  • IEP Partners provide support for parents during IEP meetings.
  • IEP Partners debrief with parents after IEP meetings.
  • IEP Partners coach parents on presenting their concerns effectively.
  • IEP Partners help other parents find information and resources.
  • IEP Partners help parents navigate the system.
  • IEP Partners promote the parent-educator partnership.

  • IEP Partners help parents and educators be prepared for meetings.
  • IEP Partners help parents be an active member of the IEP team.
  • IEP Partners help keep the focus on the student.
  • IEP Partners facilitate  an effective meeting experience.
  • IEP Partners help parents and educators work together to benefit the student’s education.

   How can parents get an IEP Partner?

  • A parent can call the Parent Liaison in the Special Education Department to request an an IEP Partner.
  • Staff can discuss the program with a parent and, with the parent’s permission, ask the Parent Liaison to call him or her.
  • A parent may refer another parent to the Parent Liaison.
