Special Education Advisory Council

                               Purpose

The council will review the services provided for students with special needs in Portland Public Schools and the diverse needs of those students. The Council will advise the School Board and the Director of Special Education regarding policies and procedures.

                             Membership

  • SPEAC membership represents the broad array of families and disabilities in special education.
  • The majority of Council members are family members of special education students. Council members are appointed by the Special Education Director.
  • SPEAC meetings are public meetings. Time is set aside at each meeting for public input.

                                Meetings

The Council meets monthly during each school calendar year. Meetings are open to the public, but if you plan to attend, please e-mail Diann Drummond at ddrum@pps.net and let her know so that she can send you a parking permit for BESC. Parking spots can sometimes be very difficult to find at our administration building.
