Participating schools
Portland Public Schools selects Academic Priority Zone schools in two ways.
First, PPS includes schools in the zone if they are facing federal sanctions for not making adequate yearly progress. These include BizTech Academy,* Bridger K-8,* George Middle, Humboldt PK-8, Jefferson High (including the Young Women’s Leadership Academy), Kelly Elementary, King PK-8, Ockley Green K-8,* Roosevelt High and Sitton Elementary.*
(*These schools made AYP in 2010, some for the first time and some for the second time, and remain in the zone for the 2010-11 school year. Ockley Green’s AYP status was uncertain until summer 2010, so it was designated a zone school this year.)
Schools are also part of the zone if more than 85 percent of their students qualify for free or discounted meals. These include Rosa Parks K-8, César Chávez K-8, Lane Middle, Lent K-8, Marysville K-8, Peninsula K-8, Rigler K-8, Scott K-8, Whitman Elementary and Woodmere Elementary.
