Fee-for-Service Kindergarten
Guidelines
Secretaries: The following forms go in the 2012-13 Registration Packets
FFS K Parent Flyer - Replaces the Statement of Understanding form, and provides a brief explanation of the fee-for-service program. Every kindergarten family should receive a copy of this in their packet. Parent do not need to return it to the school. It is simply for their information. It does not link to the lottery in any way.
Scholarship guidelines: Provides information to families about the district's scholarship program. You could copy this to the back of the parent flyer.
Contract -- Neighborhood families can receive after winter term. Don't distribute to transfer families until lottery results letters are sent out in late April. Copy in yellow. (Spanish) (Chinese)
Payment forms -- Include with contracts. Copy the two forms back to back to reduce paper. Copy in pink.
Reminders:
-Half-day families do not fill out the above forms. Families can transition their child to full-day K at the beginning of the month up to February. They just need to complete the contract/payment forms.
-Families paying by personal check do not complete a form, they just check "personal check" under Method of Tuition payment in section 5 of the contract.
-There are 2 types of scholarships: full (if family qualifies for FRL) and partial (based on income -- app. $4,600 for a family of 4). Until the building closes, families just need to check the scholarship box in section 5. We will contact them in July. Once the building reopens, they need to check the scholarship box AND complete an online (or paper) FRL form. The process for both types of scholarships is the same. There is no longer a "severe hardship form" for parents to complete.
-If families want full-day, don't qualify for a scholarship, please have them email or call me to request an individualized payment plan.
-There is a budget reduction for supplies, from $500 per classroom to $350. The six new schools (w/ FRL% from 40 - 60) will receive the usual $500 this one year to cover the cost of translations, interpretations, printing, and outreach to families given the late change from free to fee-based K.
Supplies -- Reduction in per school supplies budget
Due to a very tight budget this coming year, we have had to reduce the supplies budget to $300 per classroom. Please make sure teachers are aware of this change.
Funds are for supplies and field trips in the hopes that schools won't request this money from families. Chartfield: (acct) 299 (school org) 11119 05000 S0001. This chartfield should be used for:
Field trips (including yellow bus), basic supplies, magazine subscriptions and other consumables used only in the kindergarten classroom and that you would charge families for.

If you are unsure if a purchase is appropriate, please contact Nancy Hauth or Kate Massey in grants management.
