Tuition Reimbursement and University Vouchers
Tuition Reimbursement
PAT unit members are eligible for tuition reimbursement for up to six (6) non-cumulative quarter credit hours or a maximum of $2,280 per fiscal year (7/1 to 6/30).
Unit members may also be reimbursed for the fee charged to take and pass the National Teacher Examination to obtain a specialty area endorsement. This amount shall be within the maximum amount allowed and count as one (1) credit of the six (6) allowed.
Tuition reimbursement is limited to actual fees for quarter credit units, but not to exceed current PSU graduate credit rate.
- Semester hours will be evaluated for reimbursement on quarter credit equivalencies, not to exceed six (6) quarter credit hours per fiscal year. One semester credit equals 1.5 quarter credits.
- The coursework credit must be earned outside of District paid time.
- The grade received must be A/B/C, CR- Credit or "Pass".
- The coursework should be related to an Advanced Degree, TSPC Licensure, Assignment, or Professional Education.
- The tuition reimbursement will be processed within sixty (60) days from the date that all necessary documentation is received in the Department of Human Resources.
- A unit member who receives tuition reimbursement must remain employed with the District for at least one (1) semester following reimbursement.
*Teachers on a leave of absence, temporary teachers, and substitute teachers are not eligible for tuition reimbursement.
University Vouchers
Eligibility:
PPS Teacher who had a student teacher in the past semester. If the PPS teacher chooses not to use the voucher, it can be transferred to another certified employee who is on the wait list for vouchers.
How do I receive a voucher?
- You can receive a voucher by being a Cooperative Professional with either Portland State University or Oregon State University.

- If you are a certified employee you can be put on a wait list by e-mailing Sharon Nagel at snagel@pps.net. About three weeks before the beginning of a new term, she will email those on the wait list to determine who is still interested in the vouchers for that term. Once the vouchers are ready to be dispersed, you will receive an e-mail from Sharon letting you know vouchers are ready for pick-up. The distribution of vouchers is on a first come first serve basis.
How much tuition is covered per voucher?
Each voucher pays 2/3 of the tuition and the certified employee pays the remaining 1/3 of the tuition.
Is there a limit on how many vouchers is dispersed per employee?
There is a maximum of eight (8) credit vouchers per term.
