AmeriCorps

 What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a federally funded, national service program that was founded by Congress in 1993 with bi-partisan support. AmeriCorps gives people of diverse ages and backgrounds a chance to serve their communities while focusing on public safety, education, human needs, or the environment. Members generally serve for one year with non-profit organizations, public agencies, or faith-based organizations. In return for their service, members receive a living allowance and an education award at the end of their term, which can be used for education costs at institutions of higher education or to repay qualified student loans. For more information about AmeriCorps programs around the country, visit www.americorps.org.

The AmeriCorps member in the department of Facilities and Asset Management acts as the Sustainability Coordinator. The AmeriCorps member works with staff and students around the district to build awareness of resource conservation issues, and to save the district valuable financial resources.

The AmeriCorps member assists staff and students with energy conservation and waste reduction projects, meeting Oregon Green School criteria, and is available as a source of information for teachers. For more specific information on the different aspects of energy conservation, solid waste reduction and Oregon Green Schools, please follow the links on the Resource Conservation Page.
