ESL Department

MISSION
By the end of elementary, middle and high school, every student will meet or exceed academic standards and will be fully prepared to make productive life decisions.

GOAL
To ensure that children who are limited English proficient, including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic attainment in English, and meet the same challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards as all other children.

The ESL Department is responsible for:

  1. Administering the Title III grant program that helps children develop proficiency in English and achieve high content standards.
  2. Recommending policies and promoting best practices for meeting the needs of English language learners.
  3. Strengthening collaboration and coordination among state, district, and school programs serving English language learners.
  4. Monitoring the funded program and providing technical assistance that focuses on outcomes and accountability.
  5. Providing technical assistance that focuses on parental and community participation in language instruction educational programs for the parents and communities of limited English proficient children.
