ESL Temporary Welcome Centers are now closed

A huge “Thank You!” to Cleveland, Franklin, Madison, Roosevelt and Wilson for housing the Welcome Centers during the first two weeks of school. And thank you to all the school staff who referred Newcomer students and families to the Centers. With your combined support we were able to register and assess nearly 300 students and determine their eligibility for ESL services in a timely manner.

Going forward, IPT testers will be deployed directly to schools to assess remaining students for services. If you are a K-8 school, the “Home Language Survey” in Synergy will flag students who need to be assessed. High Schools are asked to contact call Liz Opiela at 503-964-3652 to arrange priority testing.

For schools with staff who have been recently trained in IPT administration, please contact the ESL Department to PONY materials and a list of students in need of testing to that staff member. It is essential that we only test students from that list.

If you have any students that you or your staff think may need testing, please email their name and ID number to Susanne Fernow.
