Our Team

Teen Parent Services works with each school in our district. As a team of dedicated professionals we provide support for young men and women who are pregnant or parenting. Our staff consists of Qualified Mental Health Providers as well as a Social Worker and a School Counselor, a Home Instructor, Community Outreach Specialist, and Program Secretary and Program Manager.

Our Mission

To support pregnant and parenting students in achieving their highest potential, personally and academically, while preparing them to contribute to society as citizens of a diverse, multi-cultural and international community.

Our Values

Teen Parent Services knows that…

  • All teen parents can learn.
  • Teen Parents are valuable members of our community.
  • Teen Parents will thrive with support from family, community, and school.

What we offer

Childcare

Early Head Start provides onsite daycare for PPS students at Roosevelt and Marshall High Schools. Alternate childcare from certified providers is also available.

Parenting Education

Parenting Education is delivered through group formats as well as individual instruction. Topics are flexible and based on individual student needs. Credit Recovery is provided to students when necessary. Pregnant or parenting students may transfer to one of the schools offering childcare. Students also have the option of staying in their current school during the pregnancy. Teen fathers are encouraged and welcome to access Teen Parenting education.

Transportation

Pregnant and parenting teens receive Tri-met bus tickets when they are enrolled in and attending school.

Community Connections

Teen Parent Services works cooperatively with community partners to provide services young moms and dads need to stay in school.

Night Schools

One of our Qualified Mental Health Providers works specifically with the two Alliance Night Schools to provide direct support to students involved in Teen Parent Services.  Parenting services are available to help teen parents at the Alliance Night School sites (Marshall Night School and Benson Night School).

Home Instruction

With a doctor’s note, students receive home instruction for 6 weeks after their child is born. The Home Instructor maintains contact with teachers, retrieves class work and provides home instruction in each student’s home so students don’t miss their school work. The Home Instructor is able to tutor, proctor tests, and provide general support necessary to new teen parents.  This is a vital service which allows students to earn credit during the semester in which their child is born.

Post High School Planning

Support is provided to facilitate student achievement in areas of career related learning and post high school planning. Utilizing each student’s Educational Plan and Profile, achieving employment and/or acceptance into vocational or higher education opportunities is our focus.
