Youth Employment Institute (YEI)
The Youth Employment Institute is a nonprofit organization that has been a registered alternative high school with the State of Oregon since 1985. YEI utilizes an integrated curriculum that focuses on GED education and testing, employment training, and personal success with program exit goals of employment and post-secondary education. The comprehensive approach to education and services allows youth to build a set of skills that prepares them for the future, addressing specific needs and obstacles throughout the program.
Youth seeking services at YEI participate in a range of skill, personal and interest assessments to best define their starting point in the program. Upon enrollment, youth coordinate their services with a case manager and develop a written plan outlining both short-term and long-term goals in multiple areas of their life. Plans frequently include activities that address multiple needs and goals, and aim to clarify a self-sufficiency strategy for success for every young adult.
Dedicated, skilled, and experienced instructors provide an innovative curriculum in the GED test areas and employment readiness. Other key program activities include paid work experiences, internships, job shadows, business education, job placement and computer training. Case managers work to connect with every youth through a relationship-based model of engagement, and coordinate personal development activities, supplemental classes, recreational events, access to resources and specialized services.
