Portland Online Learning
Online learning is an option for high school students who want control of their own learning experience with support from a highly qualified teacher in a lab setting. Students should not expect that online coursework will be easier; it is just as rigorous as regular "brick and mortar" classroom work. Some students take more or less time to learn and retain new skills and content. The Education Options office is here to support students in credit recovery. Planning is underway to have more options for initial credit.
Students can do coursework any time of the day, but must be in a supervised lab to take tests and turn in "offline" paper and pencil assignments to be graded by a teacher. Students are registered into a course that has interactive online practice, tutorials, offline assignments, assessments and tests. Students are expected to earn a "C" or above to pass the course. Portland is committed to matching a student to a program that best supports their learning, using different instructional strategies, educational philosophies and approaches.
