Matt Morton

Matt Morton, MEd (Squaxin Island Tribe) is currently the
Executive Director of the Native American Youth and Family Center, a
community-based organization dedicated to enriching the lives of youth and
families through education, community involvement, and culturally specific
programming. Previously, Matt served as the Deputy Director for
the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA), an organization
committed to addressing issues of child abuse and neglect through training,
research, public policy, and grassroots community development.
Matt has been actively involved in the Portland community since
he moved here fifteen years ago after completing his Masters in Education
at Oregon State University. Born in the Pacific Northwest, he has had a life-
long commitment to improving educational opportunities for students. Matt, his wife Courtaney, and son Marcus live in the Humboldt Neighborhood of North Portland.
Matt was elected to the Portland Public Schools Board in 2011, serves on the Advisory Council for Portland State University's Graduate School of Education, and currently Chairs the Youth Development Council, created by the Oregon Legislature and charged with coordinating youth support services across the state and streamlining those services to be more efficient, effective, and aligned with education investments.
